Dr Janet Lowe CBE BA MBA EdD DEd FRSE

Janet Lowe

Janet is a former Principal of Lauder College (now Carnegie College), Dunfermline, a position she held for 10 years. During her 30-year career in further and higher education, she also held posts at the University of Hull, Napier University and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art.

Janet is currently a Board member of Skills Development Scotland, and a member of the Court of the University of Dundee. She is an Honorary Professor in the Department of Applied Social Sciences at the University of Stirling and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Janet's previous public service has included membership of the Garrick Committee, the Court of Heriot-Watt University, and the Boards of the Scottish Further Education Unit and Scottish Enterprise. She was a member of the independent Local Government Finance Review Committee which reported to Scottish Ministers in 2006.

Janet was awarded the CBE in 2003 for services to further education. She was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Education by Queen Margaret University Edinburgh in 2007.

She was appointed to SFC from 3 October 2005 to 2 October 2009 and was reappointed for a second term from 3 October 2009 to 2 October 2013.
