IWD 2017 – Leigh, Perth College UHI

10 March 2017

Leigh Young, Diploma in Automotive Body Repair Level 5 and 6, Perth College UHI.

International Women’s Day 2017

Continuing at school wasn’t the right path for Leigh, so she decided to try something different. Perth College UHI offered her the chance to improve her grades and learn a trade in a subject area where she had a real passion.

The Automotive Body Repair courses provide students with basic knowledge of car body repair, welding, fabrication and paint techniques.

“I chose to study Automotive Body Repair because it is something I am very interested in and have a passion for. My qualifications will help me get a job in the industry, as they give you more on the job experience and turn you into a skilled technician, which appeals to employers. I really see myself pursuing a career in the automotive industry and after getting some formal work experience, I would like some advice on starting my own business.

“At college I’ve been able to work on my confidence, learnt to cope with change and difficult situations and have also made some friends. I’ve really liked the access to learning resources, the support network available to students and the opportunities we are given. It’s a more mature environment at college and everyone is so down-to-earth.

“Starting at college can be daunting, but everyone is in the same boat, so don’t let your fear hold you back.”
