9 March 2017

Louise Dunn, HNC Built Environment, West Lothian College.

International Women’s Day 2017

After 10 years working in retail, Louise is now building her dream career in construction with experiences and qualifications gained through West Lothian College, which have also led to a university place.

Aiming to work as a surveyor, Louise has achieved excellent grades while juggling work placements, paid employment and managing family life. She has gained fantastic feedback from her managers in industry and lecturers at the college.

Currently studying HNC Built Environment, Louise started at West Lothian College studying NC Civil Engineering.

During her time studying, she has taken various work placements with companies including Morrison Construction and ESH Border Construction, whilst being an active member of college groups such as the STEM committee. Now, after securing a paid position with ESH Border Construction, Louise has also been offered a place to study Quantity Surveying at Glasgow Caledonian University, starting in second year.

Susan McSeveney, Depute Centre Head for Construction and Motor Vehicle, said “Louise is a great student and a real testimony to where our students can progress to after studying at the college. Louise has worked extremely hard and is now on the path to success with options for higher study at university and full time employment within the construction industry. Many other students can also achieve similar success through the qualifications, experiences and networks gained through the college”

Louise says: “West Lothian College has helped me to build the career of my dreams through career opportunities, supportive lecturers and a great teaching environment. Without the support from my lecturers I would have not achieved what I have.”
