Can students apply to SFC for funding?
No, the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) don't fund individual students. Applications for support are made directly to the college running the course. The decision to fund a student using SFC student support funds lies with the college.
They must adhere to the guidance given to them by SFC. See the guidance for bursary support here - College sector bursary fund, discretionary fund and fee waiver grant policies: 2011-12
Colleges cannot use these funds for school age students who are still attending school or for students who are studying for a qualification above the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) level 6. There are also residency requirements. Further Education Residency Guide [PDF]. Students should refer to individual colleges for information on specific courses. For advanced level courses, ie those at SCQF level 7 (HNC) or above, students may be eligible for funding from the Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS).
