Funding & Outcomes

SFC invests around £1.6 billion in Scotland's colleges and universities for teaching and learning, research and other activities in support of Scottish Government priorities.

SFC's funding contributes towards the costs of learning and teaching, skills development, research, innovation and other costs such as staff, buildings and equipment in Scotland's 16 universities and three higher education institutions (collectively known as the university sector - see Universities and Higher Education institutions that we fund) and 37 colleges (see Colleges that we fund). 

SFC also provides resources to enable colleges to offer bursaries to students who are enrolled on non-advanced courses (courses that are up to, but not including, Higher National Certificate (HNC) level).
