Allocation of funding
SFC is allocating £1.12 billion to universities in academic year (AY) 2010-11 for teaching, research and for maintaining their buildings. The funding also supports skills, employability, wider acces to university and innovation.
The funding will be distributed among Scotland's 16 universities and four higher education instutions that collectively represent the university sector in Scotland. SFC's investment is split into two funds:
- the Horizon Fund, which totals £129.5 million, supports strategic initiatives in universities including the ground-breaking pooling of research activities across several universities; and
- the General Fund that provides universities with £994.1 million to support their core activities of teaching and research and knowledge transfer, as well as the modernisation and maintenance of their buildings.
