Next step: merger implementation
The LSN report Understanding FE mergers notes that during interviews one of the most commonly identified difficulties with merger was the paradox that planning should start as early as possible - but no one has full authority to implement decisions until after the merger date.
A clear plan for merger implementation should be part of the merger proposal document. This should also include how and when the colleges will make savings and efficiencies.
This should include action well beyond "vesting day", recognising that much work on the development of culture and staff and student integration will happen as part of ongoing leadership of the new college.
This guidance was developed in 2012 and will be reviewed.
