Scottish Medical Visualisation Network
Medical students are being given the chance to 'operate' on virtual bodies, thanks to advanced 3D digital technologies.
The Scottish Medical Visualisation Network has been developed by the DDS at Glasgow School of Art, in partnership with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Supported by the SFC, the Network uses advanced 3D technologies to support medical teaching and learning and help with the research and planning of surgical procedures, such as virtual precision cutting and piercing or complex operations on a virtual human shown in 3D on a computer.
The Network gives medical practitioners, educators and academics the opportunity to come together with technical experts to share knowledge which will help identify and plan future research in the field of medical visualisation.
