This week (16-22 November) is Entrepreneurship Week. Did you know SFC supports entrepreneurs?
We do this by our work in:
We’ve supported the Converge Challenge with £525,000 over the last three years, during which 35 new companies have been created, employing 77 staff and offering 41 products. Converge Challenge is open to all staff and students at Scotland’s 19 universities. Finalists have included entrepreneurs with new medical products and treatments and this year’s winner Photon Force Ltd will design, build and supply scientific sensors that can precisely detect and measure single photons.
The Young Innovators Challenge (YIC), which is run by Scottish Institute for Enterprise, has been running since 2012 with our support. It provides a launch pad for young people who want to start an innovative new business in Scotland. This year’s winners included teams developing apps to help dementia sufferers and disabled people and software to improve the efficiency of wind turbines.
Some of the Converge Challenge and Young Innovators Challenge entrants have also benefitted from our Innovation Vouchers, which provide £5,000 for small businesses to work with universities to develop their products and services.
The two challenge competitions complement each other – two winners of the 2014 YIC have gone on to win the Converge Challenge Kickstart awards.
Young Innovators Challenge and the Converge Challenge are part of the Scottish Government Scotland CAN DO approach to raising and supporting the aspirations and ambitions of our entrepreneurs and innovators.
