“Unstoppable” pupils LIFT OFF to Success
12 Aug 2015
More than 60 young people celebrated graduating from the LIFT OFF to Success programme at St Andrews University last month.
LIFT OFF to Success (LO2S), which is funded by SFC, brings up to 65 young people together to try out student life for themselves. Pupils from schools in Fife and Tayside where low numbers of leavers go on to college or university (22% or less) spend five days staying in a university hall of residence and visiting different colleges and universities each day.
The pupils experience a packed programme of taster sessions laid on by the hosting colleges and universities, supported by an enthusiastic team of student leaders (current university or college students) and night staff (usually probationer teachers and postgraduate students). All accommodation, food and travel is paid for.
At the graduation event, the pupils and their families heard from Conor Marshall, Abertay University Student President, who told them not to believe they couldn't achieve: “You are unstoppable!” as well as Matthew, a former LO2S pupil who is now entering his second year at Stirling University studying Film and History.
LIFT Off is part of the SFC-funded SHEP (Schools for Higher Education Programme).
