Why Sport Matters in Scotland
2 Nov 2015
A list of priorities and ambitions for sport in Scotland has been launched
with the help of SFC-funded Scottish Student Sport.
According to the Scottish Sports Alliance, people who play sport or are
physically active are 15% more likely to go to college or university and get 40%
higher test scores. Students who participate in sporting activities show
improved concentration and higher educational attainment. Involvement in club
sport at college or university brings further benefits including increased life satisfaction and
bigger social networks. Evidence suggests active students settle in quicker and
have a greater sense of belonging to their college or university.
The Alliance’s Manifesto for Scottish Sport sets out entitlements,
outcomes and priorities to help more people to get more out of sport and lists
learning, skills and employability amongst the many reasons sport matters.
