Further funding for pioneering Hub

Further funding for pioneering Hub

13 Jul 2016

The pioneering scheme teaches Advanced Highers to school pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds. Pupils from across Glasgow study English, mathematics, biology, chemistry, history, business management and modern studies in the university environment.

Advanced Highers are increasingly seen as the best preparation for university but are limited in availability in some schools, which can make it hard for pupils from these schools to gain a university place.

The scheme has been hugely successful – last year, pupils from the hub achieved pass rates of 90%, compared to a national average of 81%.

The hub opened in August 2013, in partnership with Glasgow City Council and funded by SFC, and was the first project in Scotland to employ school teachers on a university campus.
