National Mentoring Day
27 Oct 2016
Today is National Mentoring Day, a great opportunity to celebrate SFC’s work with MCR Pathways.
Several SFC staff are volunteers with the MCR Pathways scheme, mentoring school pupils in Glasgow. We were also the first national organisation to sign up to the scheme as one of its Pioneering Partners.
The MCR Pathways scheme has been radically improving the aspirations and life chances of care experienced young people in Glasgow for ten years, matching volunteer mentors with students aged between 12-18, particularly those from a care experienced background.
Its founder, Iain MacRitchie, was recognised by the Prime Minister in January through the Points of Light programme, which celebrates individual volunteers and their contributions to the community.
MCR Pathways has recently signed a Public and Social Partnership agreement with Glasgow City Council to roll out the programme across all 30 Glasgow schools over the next three years. After this time the Education Authority will take on the programme with mentoring for care experienced young people across Glasgow becoming the norm.
