Scottish Universities Welcome the World
25 Jan 2017
Over 350 people from 65 countries came together in Edinburgh yesterday to celebrate Burns Night with an international twist.
The theme of the evening was the international diversity of Scotland's higher education community and its welcome to students from across the world. The event was organised by Universities Scotland with support from partners that included the Scottish Funding Council, VisitScotland and the Scottish Government.
Guests enjoyed traditional Burns Night fare complete with a dramatic Address to the Haggis by a student from The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Speaking at the event, First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, said: “if he were alive today, Rabbie Burns would have loved the diversity of modern Scotland."
