20 Mar 2018

New figures from the Scottish Funding Council show record numbers of postgraduate students entering Scotland’s universities.

According to today’s figures entrants on taught postgraduate programmes increased by 21% in the decade between 2006-07 and 2016-17. Early figures for 2017-18 also published today show this trend is set to accelerate following recent Scottish Government reforms to postgraduate student support.

Meanwhile, in a highly competitive environment for research talent, students choosing Scotland for postgraduate study rose by 27% over the same period.

John Kemp, interim chief executive of the Scottish Funding Council said: “Scotland has a world-leading university system. Today’s figures show Scotland’s continuing ability to attract postgraduate researchers and how taught postgraduate programmes are increasingly bringing advanced skills and knowledge into Scottish industry.”
