Record year for Converge Challenge

Record year for Converge Challenge

6 Apr 2018

The continued growth of the Converge Challenge brings a total of over 1,100 applications since the programme began in 2011.

Modern universities have grown their share of applications to 35% and for the first time Converge Challenge received applications from the Royal Conservatoire, further demonstrating the sustained push of the Converge team to outreach into the creative sector.

Dr Mike Cantlay OBE, Chair of the Scottish Funding Council, a main funder of Converge Challenge said: “The Scottish Funding Council is an active supporter of the entrepreneurial network in Scottish universities and we are delighted to see this year’s substantial growth in applications from staff and students. Developing entrepreneurship through national initiatives like the Converge Challenge is vitally important in driving Scotland’s future economic growth as a Can Do nation.”

The next stage of the programme will see an expert judging panel narrow down all 223 entries to their Top 60.

The 2018 programme has a total prize fund of cash and in-kind, business support packages valued at over £160,000.

The SFC-funded Converge Challenge is aimed at staff, students and recent graduates from Scottish universities, inspiring them to develop their ideas into viable and successful business ventures.
