Milestone for new enterprise agency
3 Oct 2018
The creation of an enterprise agency to serve the South of Scotland has moved a step closer with the publication of a new report from the Scottish Government.
The report analyses a consultation that took place earlier this year when individuals and organisations from across the region were invited to contribute their views on the establishment of the new agency.
Respondents said they would like to see the development of the South of Scotland’s economy characterised by inclusive growth, diversification of the local economy and good employment opportunities. They also wanted to see a focus on education and skills development and opportunities for young people.
Commentating on the report, Rural Economy Secretary, Fergus Ewing, said the new agency would be crucial in transforming the fortunes of the region. He added: “Some work is already underway to achieve that, with £7.7 million being awarded to projects across Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders by South of Scotland Enterprise’s interim partnership in July, to provide careers opportunities and build community resilience.”
