Policy / Analysis Officer – Finance Directorate

Salary in the range: £26,754 - £33,717    

This post will support the analysis of patterns and trends relating to college and university provision and participation in Scotland; and the production of SFC’s national statistical publications.

The post-holder will extract and analyse statistical data and other evidence – this will support our monitoring of the performance of colleges and universities and decision making regarding resource allocation. They will assist in the data analysis, drafting and checking of SFC’s national publications, including National and Official statistics. They will work closely with our policy teams and attend committees and working groups with internal and external stakeholders and draft reports and papers for senior management to review. 

Skills and experience

You will have strong oral and written communication skills and strong IT skills, with SAS or other programming experience. You will have proven skill in the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data and the ability to interpret and explain complex information to audiences with varying degrees of expertise. You will be a team player who will work with internal and external colleagues to improve the quality of the evidence base and its use. You will be qualified to degree (SCQF level 9) level or hold equivalent experience – preferably in a subject with a substantial quantitative content. You will have an awareness of, and interest in, the political context in which SFC operates.

The ideal candidate will have SPSS, SQL or related skills and will have experience of using Business Intelligence tools such as Qlikview. They will also have knowledge of the further/higher education sector.
