Working together to beat cancer

The new Beatson Institute cancer research unit, completed in 2008, is a unique collaboration between Glasgow's three major players in cancer research - the University of Glasgow, NHS, and Cancer Research UK.

By collaborating, the partners have been able to bring over 200 scientists and doctors from the three organisations together under one roof to create the Glasgow Centre for Cancer Research. The involvement of the NHS ensures strong joint working relationships between the Institute and the nearby Gartnavel Hospital.

Professor Karen Vousden, Director of the Beatson Institute, describes the Institute as "a melting pot of some of the most talented scientists and doctors in the country, giving us the best possible chance of making progress against the disease".
