Collaboration in Research
SFC Alliances for Research Challenges
Alliances for Research Challenges (ARCs) connect Scotland’s research excellence to Scotland’s national challenges. They build on our distinctive collaborative ethos and our world-class universities – building connections across Research Pools, Innovation Centres, research institutes, industry partners, third-sector collaborators, policymakers, and the people of Scotland – to create interdisciplinary, multi-institutional, cross-sectoral networks, tackling key societal challenges aligned to Scottish Government priorities.
The Research pooling initiative was created by SFC in 2004 to encourage researchers across Scottish higher education to pool their resources and respond to increasing international competition.
Launched 2012, SFC is working in partnership with Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, to support transformational collaboration between universities and businesses.
The Innovation Centres aim to enhance innovation and entrepreneurship across Scotland’s key economic sectors, create jobs and grow the economy.
