Aberdeen College - Hospitality and ESOL
Aberdeen College has piloted a new course in Hospitality & ESOL aimed mainly at students who had already completed a year full-time ESOL but who would still benefit from ESOL support while learning new vocational skills.
The 15 students completed Level 1 Diplomas in Professional Cookery and Food and Beverage Service, as well as units in ESOL.

The Professional Cookery diploma required the students to pass a practical three-hour exam while being assessed by two people and a professional chef, while the Food and Beverage Service saw students serving in the College's training restaurant one day per week.
The students also took part in a competition to design a menu for people with Ceoliac Disease with the winner from their group then competing in a "cook-off" with winners from other class groups. Representatives from the Coeliac Society judged the dishes.
