Open University - skills utilisation success

The Scottish Funding Council awarded a total of £1.8 million to 12 skills utilisation projects, designed to support the Scottish Government's objective of driving up productivity by using skills more effectively in the workplace, two of which will be delivered by the Open University (OU).

One of the OU projects will focus on engineering skills gained in the workplace, working with employers and trades unions to develop a work-based model for employees with a Modern Apprenticeship or Higher National award. The outcome will be a supported study programme that allows them to enhance their skills and work towards a degree.

The second OU project will work with private, public and voluntary social care providers to develop ways of improving management skills utilisation in the social care sector, addressing how skills can be recognised and used in different workplace settings.
