Committee remit & membership
Remit
The remit of the IGS committee is to:
- advise the Council on the statistical information about Higher Education Institutions that the Council needs to carry out its primary function of making funding allocations;
- constitute a forum for the discussion of matters relating to the statistical returns covering the fundable institutions and to be a channel for the communication of views between the institutions, SFC and other represented stakeholders;
- provide advice and comment to the Council on the development of new methods for statistical aspects of funding, performance indicators or other calculations;
- provide advice on SFC and Scottish Executive statistical publications and other publications relevant to the sector. The group will identify the need for statistical publications to aid the sector;
- determine the principles applying to the statistical returns and resulting publications for example guidelines to apply to accessing and release of information from the returns;
- participate in the development of statistics on higher education in the UK, for example, by advising on the preparation of Scottish proposals to HESA;
- provide inputs to cross-sectoral statistical forums and statistical consultations to inform policy developments; and
- consider the implications in terms of staffing and other resources, for the fundable institutions of changes to the statistical returns or the introduction of new returns.
