The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) has published its final report for the Confirmation and Clearing period, following the publication of A level results.

In Scotland, a record 26.2% of all 18 year olds have now been accepted into university.

UCAS figures also show the proportion of placed SIMD20 applicants increased from 14.7% in 2017 to 15.0% in 2018, and proportion of placed 18 years SIMD20 applicants increased from 9.7% to 10.1%, equivalent to a 3% and 4% increase, respectively.

John Kemp, SFC’s Interim Chief Executive said:

“We are pleased to see these results, confirming that progress continues to be made in widening access to higher education.

Not only is it great to see a record number of 18-year olds attending university, but if we add to this the fact that there is a high proportion of HE entrants at colleges in Scotland – accounting for 37% of Scotland’s total HE undergraduate population in 2016-17 – the picture in Scotland is even more encouraging than these statistics suggest.”
