The 2018 Green Gown Awards saw Scottish universities and colleges once more leading the way in energy and environmental performance.

Eleven Scottish entries made it through to yesterday’s awards ceremony. The prestigious award for Sustainable Institution of the Year went to the University of Edinburgh. The University was praised by the judges for its work to adopt a whole institution approach and for its drive to become more socially responsible and more sustainable.

The Student Engagement Award went to Glasgow Kelvin College for its White Ribbon campaign. Based on the assertion that there can be no sustainable development without gender equality, the campaign tackles gender violence and raises students’ awareness of the issue.

Highly Commended awards went to the University of St Andrews in the Campus of the Future category where finalists also included the University of the West of Scotland and the University of Edinburgh. The St Andrews commendation was for the Eden Campus Energy Centre which is partly funded by SFC. The University of Edinburgh was also highly commended in the Outstanding Leadership category.
