Dr Veena O’Halloran, BA (Hons), MA (Hons), PhD, FSAScot

Dr Veena O’Halloran completed honours BA and MA degrees at University College, Galway, specialising in archaeology and human geography. Winning a National University of Ireland Travelling Studentship in Human Geography enabled her to do a PhD at St Andrews University.

Veena O'HalloranIn 1990 she commenced a career in Higher Education management. She has extensive professional experience in the university sector across five universities and a wide variety of roles, dedicated to the achievement of world class education and research.

Prior to her retirement from full-time employment in 2022, Veena worked at the universities of Abertay, Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Strathclyde. At Strathclyde she served as a member of the University’s Court and the Senate, prior to her appointment in 2017 as University Secretary and Compliance Officer. She was Secretary to the University Court and Senate and, in partnership with other Senior Officers had delegated responsibility for the administration of the University.

Veena is passionate about education and empowering young people by raising their aspirations and attainment. With a career in higher education spanning over three decades, she has extensive experience of university governance, strategic leadership, policy development, people, project and change management.

Veena’s re-appointment runs from 4 October 2019 to 3 October 2023.
