Jenna heads to World Cup qualifiers

Jenna Fife

20 Oct 2017

Edinburgh Napier student and football player Jenna Fife is determined to impress after being called up for the Scotland Women’s National Team which begins its 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign this week.

Hibernian Ladies goalkeeper Jenna, who played for the national team at under 19 level, will fulfil her ambition of competing in the senior team: “Since I was young it was an aim of mine to get into the national squad but it was a big surprise when I was selected, especially at this point in my career,” she said.

She combines her national and Hibernian Ladies football duties with studying fourth year of a Sport and Exercise Science degree at Edinburgh Napier University. It’s a full on schedule with training five mornings a week and three nights at Hibernian with a game on Sundays.

Jenna is one of 150 students supported by Winning Students, a national sports scholarship programme for student athletes funded by SFC. Through it she receives funding support and the academic flexibility required to perform at the highest level in sport and studies. There are 18 Scottish universities and 25 colleges in the Winning Students network.

Jenna said:  “The university and Winning Students have given me massive support in my football career and studying. The university allows me to go away with the squads and if I miss coursework they allow me to catch up. Winning Students is a massive help and I don’t think I’d be able to do it if it wasn’t for them.”
