This is the current position regarding the presence of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) in Scottish college and university estate. It is based on data provided by colleges and universities in response to SFC’s RAAC questionnaires.

Institutions are at different stages in the process of identifying RAAC and assessing its condition, so the full extent of exposure and required remedial works is not yet fully known. We will update this page as new information becomes available.

October 2024

On 16 September, the Incident Reporting and Investigation Centre (IRIC), part of NHS National Services Scotland, issued an Estates and Facilities Notice (EFN) which highlighted rooflights as an area of particular risk after a reported collapse in a private building. While there is no current change in guidance from the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), it is advised that all unmitigated rooflight details are considered a ‘critical high risk’ and addressed accordingly.
