University Intake Targets for Dentistry 2024-25

Share:

Purpose

I am writing to announce the university intake targets in the controlled subject of Dentistry for Academic Year (AY) 2024-25.

Background

SFC receives annual guidance from the Chief Dental Officer (CDO) and Dentistry Division, providing recommended intakes for dental schools in Scotland. This letter of guidance for AY 2024-25, dated 26 April 2024, is provided in Annex A

Intake targets

The guidance received from the CDO recommends that, after extensive analytical work on the requirements of the dental workforce in Scotland, intake targets should remain at the levels set out for this year (AY 2023-24).

In line with this guidance, the overall university intake target for Dentistry for AY 2024-25 is 155 students with an intake target for Scottish-domiciled/’home fee’, rest of UK (rUK) and Republic of Ireland (RoI) students of 135. This is shown in Table 1 below.

The University of Dundee and the University of Glasgow are allowed to recruit international Dentistry students (see Table 1), but international students will be expected to contribute towards ACT(D) via their student fees as previously agreed.

Funded student places

We will share our funded places modelling with universities and funded places and associated teaching funding will then be confirmed in our Final Funding Allocations for AY 2024-25 at the end of May.
